Anton Sculpture Stand is designed to allow glass artists to display their work in a practical and decorative way as an interior sculpture.
Anton Sculpture Stand will allow you to display a 200mm circular piece of glass art or ceramics.

From the photo you can see that the glass slides between the angled metal. The glass is therefore sat in a v groove allowing a range of thicknesses of glass to sit securely The stand is designed for 6mm but it can cope with anything below this and can go up to 8mm. If you want it to be permanent I would advise holding with silicon adhesive.
This stands at a height of approximately 250mm.
It measures 260mm across and 130mm depth.

They are hand forged by me in Little Duck Forge, Portsmouth.
The mild steel has been oiled and waxed for interior use.

They are hand forged by me in Little Duck Forge, Portsmouth.
I have included a photo of myself 5ft8″ so you can gauge the size.

Squiggle Frame

Hand forged steel wreath base.

For inspiration and to share what you have done seek ‘Sqiggle Frames by The friends of Little Duck Forge’ Facebook Page here

Description

Squiggle frames are wall hanging wreaths hand forged in mild steel and finished with oil and wax. They are a great base for making all sorts of things decorative. Originally designed as a base for Christmas wreaths it was soon discovered that the shape was so pleasing it could be used all round the year as a base for different crafts. Seaside/Coastal Wreaths being very popular.

Size: 30 x 40 cm high including the squiggle (12×15.5”) Available to buy for £25 from my Folksy Shop here

Inspiration

When I first set up the forge and we were making Christmas decorations my apprentice asked if we would be making Christmas wreaths….he had forged flowers in mind so I said no, they would be too heavy and cost a fortune!
That night I went home and berated myself for being negative and started thinking about what would be affordable and not be a liability on the doors of Portsmouth. The next morning I made a squiggle frame, that day I decorated it with green and red felt, then baubles and ribbon, then stones……and so started the life of the Squiggle Frame. I now sell them to ceramicists and weavers to make wall sculptures as well as the public who have used them to make amazing pieces of art. One customer never made hers up, after 3 years she came to me and said she had decided ‘less is more’….she loves the frame just as it is on the wall with no decoration. What will you do with yours?

Under the sea wall panel

This wall panel of fish under the sea would suit any wall indoors or out. With beautiful organic flowing forms, this ‘Under the Sea’ wall panel hanging is sure to bring a touch of the coast to your home. I love colour but am not so keen on painting steel so I use fused glass for an injection of colour. The galvanised steel will not rust and the glass will not fade.

E-Newsletter

Newsletter No 1 – January 2022

Hello and welcome, this is a pretty exciting moment for me, and I want to include you in my first e-newsletter! It has taken me 12 years to build up the courage to send out a newsletter as there are so many other exciting things to do and I fully understand that not everyone has time for even more e-mails. To quickly address why you are receiving it: you probably asked if I had a mailing list at some point in the past or you responded to a post on Facebook, possibly we have met, maybe at a show or you have visited the forge. It may have been a while ago, so you might have to dig deep into the old memory banks. If you don’t want to receive these emails you can absolutely unsubscribe (down at the bottom)… but I hope you stay! I will not bombard you whilst hopefully offering you something of interest each monthly issue: helpful tips, inspiration, recommendations, and possibly some fun.

Common Time

Whilst sat in a band practice one day I was watching the conductor beating time, I suddenly realised the beauty of the form scribed in the air by his batton ….4/4 or Common Time was born. I chose to put a stave through the form to give it balance and a hint at the subject.

Snow Witch

Over twenty local artists responded to a challenge by local author Matt Wingett to make new work inspired by his novel The Snow Witch novel in some form or other.

Funded by Arts Council England and generously supported by Cascades Shopping Centre the exhibition presented a range of work in a number of mediums. It was open daily for three weeks and saw over 1500 people visit the gallery during this time.

Curator Lucille Scott, Blacksmith and owner of Little Duck Forge explained that the idea came up in conversation with Matt over a year before in 2018. Originally the exhibition was to be a collaboration between Lucille and Matt, the wordsmith versus the blacksmith. Over the following year, the idea grew into a scheme for the exhibition which opened October 21st 2020.

The work of other artists taking part can be seen at the exhibition website here

Flamenco Dancer

Inspired by dance and the movement of fabric plus the freshness of a line and wash sketch I have endeavored to create a 3D ‘sketch’ of a flamenco dancer. The lines are incomplete as if quickly sketched and a hint of colour has been added using glass panels. It isn’t fully ‘coloured’ in the same way a sketch wouldn’t be.

I have done a series of studies of Flamenso dancing which I love as it is full of spirit and attitude. The pieces range from copper panels of flamenco hands to the 3D life size sculpture.

In the garden with the first pieces of glass added.

Mothers a munitionette

Little Duck Forge submitted “Mothers a munitionette” for the Transition Exhibition organised by the British Artist Blacksmith Association. Munitionettes manufactured cordite and TNT during the First World War.

In September 2016, a striking new World War 1 Peace Monument was created at the Grote Markt, in front of the In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres, Belgium and is now located adjacent to the German War Cemetery at Langemark Poelkapelle.

Transition Touring Exhibition

The British Artist Blacksmiths Association (BABA) organised Transition, a major international touring exhibition of contemporary forged metal design, opened in September 2016 at the Kazematten, Ypres, Belgium to coincide with the ‘Ypres 2016’ International Blacksmithing Event.

The Canary Girls were British women who worked in munitions manufacturing (TNT) shells during the First World War (1914–1918). It was not only the UK’s female munitions workers that were affected by the TNT, but also the babies that were born to them. Hundreds of “Canary Babies” were born with a slightly yellow skin colour because of their mothers’ exposure to dangerous chemicals in the munitions factories during World War One. Nothing could be done for the babies at the time, but the discolouration slowly faded with time. [1]
